It's finally October!!! This may be my favorite month of the year. When these cool kids contacted me to set up a spooky, themed session I was ALL for it. Immediately started looking into smoke bombs, because you can't have a Halloween shoot without spooky smoke! Turns out, if you're ordering them online, there is a large hazmat shipping fee. Disappointed and bummed, I tried to think of a solution, and I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it sooner. You see, there is this thing called airsoft that I used to play, and smoke bombs are commonly used during games. So, I went ahead and contacted our local airsoft store and they had some in stock! I scored some sweet colored magic without the giant shipping fees.
*Please note; these were used on private property with permissions. Smoke bombs ARE flammable. Do not light them and throw them on dead leaves. Use caution when lighting as they do in fact throw sparks. Also, no one was harmed in the making of these photos. These two lovebirds were laughing the whole time.
Practice your poses BEFORE you light the smoke. You'll only have about 60-90 seconds to nail it before the smoke dissipates.
Right after you light it, frame your body to make a circle so your photographer can get cool shots with you surrounded.
Drop the smoke behind you and strike a pose!
If you're like us and go well into the night, a campfire was an incredible backlight and I highly recommend it.
Last but not least, HAVE FUN!
